Fall 2014 TV Lineup (AKA Maternity Leave All-Nighter Ammo)

Still one of the best TV shows EVER.

With the endings of 24, True Blood and Dexter; and Downton and Mad Men not slated to start until 2015 we are in dire need of some shows to watch while we are up 24/7 with a newborn.

(Damn UK fans get Downton September 21st)

Last maternity "leave" we binge watched Treme and Mad Men. I have seen tons of previews for this Fall's new TV season.....Katherine Heigel, Kate Walsh, and show called Selfie? Ugh. Anyone have any new suggestions? We don't have many fall shows we love. Our favorites in general are Justified, 24, Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, True Detective, Dexter, Modern Family, Archer, and Bones. I deleted all 1 zillion Modern Family shows off my DVR this weekend. I love it but with Football starting there was no way I could watch them all. And I think I'm the last person to admit I still watch Grey's Anatomy.

If you've never watched Archer, here is mashup of best quotes:

Here are the shows that still remain on our DVR schedule for this fall:

The Blacklist "State of Affairs" September 22
We loved this last year and even though the main female character makes you want to pull your hair out (sometimes).... this is a great action packed show and James Spader is magnificent.

Parenthood
This is probably one of the best shows on television. No trashy kardashians, this show is real life. Watch 3 and come disagree with  me. I dare you. Each episode has a 79% chance of tears.

Nashville
My guilty pleasure. I let these stack up and binge watch when Max is out of town.

And here are some new to us shows that have been highly recommended:

Friday Night Lights
Never seen it but this Emmy Preview makes me want to start now!

Breaking Bad
Did y'all love this show?

House of Cards
Heard this was pretty stellar too and I have a major girl crush on Kate Mara

Scandal
My girlfriends told me this was highly addictive. Do Husbands watch?

Got any other favorites we should be watching?

xo,
K

  1. I still watch Grey's! Mildly obsessively... and scandal is the BEST. My hubs won't watch it, but he has no taste :)

  2. I CANNOT recommend House of Cards enough - it is brilliant. In fact, it makes me feel stupid at times - I've actually had to watch a few episodes twice because there is so much subtle stuff going on. Scandal is good, but I think of it like a slightly dumbed-down version of House of Cards. In other words, if you're barely functioning one night because of lack of sleep and/or a hangover (because now you can drink!), go with Scandal. If you're mentally alert, House of Cards for sure. This post reminds me that I was stuck with TV Land because DVRs weren't invented yet and cable generally sucked, and I got hooked on The Joey Bishop Show - a gem. If you never got into the Sopranos, that would be a great binge watch as well.

  3. What do you know about the League? Our couple friends were talking about it this weekend and now I am curious. Archer is new to me, but we are going to start it. I watched Cheers and Golden Girls during all of those late night feeds. Another one of our girlfriends watched Dawson's Creek which made me laugh.

  4. I can't handle anything serious but my husband stayed up watching Breaking Bad constantly - he still thinks it's one of the best shows. Now he is on to House of Cards (after finishing Orange is the New Black) and Lie to Me. I like The Mindy Project and Modern Family. We watch Late Night with Jimmy Fallon while bouncing a baby.

  5. Friday Night Lights all the way!!! This is the series we watched after we had twins last year... I think it's just the perfect show for having a new baby, great TV but not nightmare inducing like Breaking Bad or Homeland has done to me... Ha! As an added bonus there's a ton of the same actors from Parenthood in FNL too!

  6. Breaking Bad, Friday Night Lights, and House of Cards are all excellent! Also, there are two new shows that are only 3 or 4 episodes in that are really good! Manhattan, on WGN America (a channel I had never even heard of...my husband found this one). And The Honorable Woman on Sundance. It's Homeland-esque. Both are great and have been getting us thru this past month when it seems like there's nothing good on TV!!!

  7. Last newborn stage I watched Scandal and now I'm totally hooked. When I finished that I watch...wait for it... Dawson's creek. Yes and I still loved it 100 yrs later. I'm considering watching Felicity if I can Netflix stream it because I loved that show so bad or Friday Night Lights because I never watched that one. For current shows Revenge, Nashville, and Scandal are all my guilty pleasures. We tried House of Cards but I just could not get into it, Kevin Spacey is so asexual to me and I felt he was just lacking something.
